1.1 TUFLOW Products
TUFLOW is a suite of products that supports the numerical simulation of urban drainage, catchment runoff, flooding, pollutant export, estuarine, lacustrine and coastal hydrodynamics and associated environmental processes. Developed through close collaboration with universities and users, TUFLOW software is known for its high scientific standard, accuracy, rigorous benchmarking, and workflow efficiency.
The TUFLOW suite is comprised of the following products.
TUFLOW Classic/HPC
TUFLOW Classic/HPC is a hydrodynamic modelling engine for simulating two dimensional free surface flows across floodplains, rivers and urban drainage systems, with support for integrated one dimensional elements such as pipes and channels. Two solvers are available: the Classic solver, which uses a semi implicit finite difference approach suited to robust single core execution, and the HPC solver, which uses an explicit finite volume formulation optimised for parallel CPU and GPU acceleration. The software is used for flood modelling, infrastructure design, stormwater assessment and scenario testing under varying hydrological conditions. Its ability to represent complex hydraulic interactions between channels, structures and floodplains makes it suitable for both detailed engineering studies and large scale flood risk assessments. TUFLOW FV
TUFLOW FV is a flexible mesh finite volume hydrodynamic engine that supports two and three dimensional simulation of riverine, estuarine, lacustrine and coastal systems. It resolves flow using a conservative formulation of the nonlinear shallow water equations and supports both CPU and GPU execution with consistent results across platforms. The flexible mesh approach allows efficient representation of complex geometries and local refinement where required while maintaining numerical stability and mass conservation. The modelling framework is modular and supports simulation of sediment transport, water quality, particle tracking and density driven processes such as stratification. A more detailed introduction of TUFLOW FV is provided in Section 1.2.
TUFLOW CATCH
TUFLOW CATCH is a fully integrated modelling framework that seamlessly links catchment (TUFLOW Classic/HPC) and receiving waterway (TUFLOW FV) process simulation. It supports simulation of hydrology, hydraulics and pollutant export/transformation from top of catchment to downstream receiving waterway outlet, without manual coupling or resorting to lumped hydrologic assumptions.
