Description
The total length of the nodestring structure connection associated with the culvert exceeds the total width of the culvert structure (total barrels x pipe diamater or box culvert width). Structure calculations use nodestring-averaged hydraulic parameters where each cell face in the nodestring is weighted by its length and depth. When the nodestring extends beyond the culvert width additional cell faces outside the culvert opening are included in the average which may not be representative of the flow conditions at the structure.
Suggestions
Where possible refine the mesh in the vicinity of the culvert so that the nodestring length more closely matches the culvert width. Check that the culvert dimensions and number of barrels specified in the culvert data are correct. A small excess in nodestring length relative to culvert width may be unavoidable depending on mesh resolution and is generally acceptable.
