Section 6 Water Quality Module

6.1 Mass Balance

Users can now specify an additional output type massbalance that generates a suite of csv files that report timeseries of all time-accumulated volume and mass fluxes within a model domain, as related to all simulated quantities, other than temperature. This includes water quality constituents. Details of this output are provided in Section 2.4 of these Release Notes, and output file header information can be round in Section 4.9.2 of the TUFLOW FV Water Quality User Manual.

6.1.1 Mass Balance WL_CURT Support

The calculation of FV_MF_NS (as described in Section 2.4) has been upgraded to include support for WL_CURT boundary types. Accumulated fluxes are now calculated across all WL, WL_CURT, WLS and QN boundaries, summed to a single timeseries. Can be a positive or negative quantity.

6.1.2 Extended Not a Number (NaN)

Added extended NaN checking for mass balance calculations.

6.1.3 Salinity Limitation Function Fixes

Restricted application of the ‘estuarine’ salinity limitation function to be applied to growth reduction only, as described in the TUFLOW FV Water Quality User Manual. Previous applications of this limitation function may have had it applied as respiration enhancement, contrary to the description in the manual.

Fixed a mismatch in reporting information regarding all salinity limitation functions in the WQ Module log file. The parameters were correctly applied within the model, but incorrectly reported in the log file, so other than the above, no changes to results are expected.
